The show goes on
Last year marked the return of a major motor sports exhibition to London, and the venture proved to be a success. For 1993, the Daily Express Motor Racing Show in association with Motoring News and Motor Sport, which takes place at Earl’s Court from February 11-14, has been expanded. There will be more floor space, more exhibits and more things to try out for yourself.
One of the highlights of the four-day event will be the launch of Pacific Grand Prix’s brand new Fl car, the PR01 , which is scheduled to make its public debut just one month before the Fl season recommences at Kyalami.
Mansell aficionados will be able to take a look at the Lola T93/00 that the outgoing F1 champion will race in this year’s CART/PPG IndyCar World Series. Mansell’s all-conquering Williams is, naturally, expected to appear, as part of a display dedicated to past British F1 champions.
There will also be a variety of GT racers, ancient and modern. An ex-Moss Maserati 3005 is one of the stars of yore, while many road cars suitable for the new GT regulations (see Cotton On, facing page) will also be on view, including the Jaguar XJ220, LotusSport 300 and Venturi.
Daytona Raceway will be providing an indoor karting facility for public use, though recent experience of a Tamiya Ford Escort Cosworth (admittedly within the furniture-ridden confines of Standard House) suggests that test drives of the Japanese giant’s latest radio controlled models might actually be more taxing… Certified masochists will be welcomed with open arms at Racefit, which specialises in fine-tuning racing drivers’ physiques. There will be ample equipment on hand to assess your own particular needs. Oxygen masks are not supplied.
There will be technical seminars on Thursday the 11th and Friday the 12th; attendance costs £25 per head, and the speakers will explain how to make best use of modern motor racing equipment and techniques. The first day is dedicated to touring car racing, the second to professional single-seater racing (ie F3 and F3000).
Throughout the four days, numerous celebrities will be interviewed live on stage, and there will be the usual varied assortment of theme displays and trade stands. Look out too for the launch of the Marie Curie Motor Racing Club, a project instigated by Formula 3000 team Omegaland. Proceeds will be split between the team and Cancer Care.
Both Motoring News and Motor Sport will be present throughout. Visitors welcome.
Thursday is reserved for trade and press. The show opens at 10.00 on each of the other three days, closing at 20.30 (Friday), 19.00 (Saturday) and 18.00 (Sunday). Admission costs £6 for adults, £3 for children. Note that tickets will be on sale from all staffed Network SouthEast BR stations. They can also be reserved in advance via the Earl’s Court box office, on 071-373 8141. RAC MSA and FISA competition licence holders are entitled to free admission either by booking in advance or by bringing a paying friend. For details, call 081-744 1585.
