The VW Beetle still roams the world’s roads and Foulis have come up with a 325-page book (10 3/4″ x 8″) by Lindsay Porter about how to purchase and maintain the Beetle and Transporter Volkswagens, and how to build a Beetle Special. VW Beetle & Transporter costs £12.95, and follows the pattern of the well-known Haynes workshop manuals. WB

Shire Publications continue to issue very attractive little books on transport subjects, packed with good pictures backed up by a readable supporting text. Two recent tides in their Shire Album series are Children’s Cars by Paul Pennell, and Three Wheelers by Ken Hill. At a mere £1.25 each, the information provided is astonishing, and Pennell includes almost every child’s car we can think of.

He has missed the working model of the GP Sunbeam “The Cub” made by Chrysler UK apprentices, and presented to the son of HRH Prince Michael of Kent when he opened the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, and is incorrect in describing the D’Yrsan as a shaft-drive three-wheeler. Otherwise I can find no fault. WB

The indefatigable Alan Townsin has brought out yet another of his erudite and fully-illustrated books in his Best of British Buses series. No 11 is devoted to Post War Daimlers 1942-1981, and costs £8.95 front Transport Publishing Co Ltd of Glossop. WB

No more informative books are to be found than those in Motor Racing Publications’ Collector’s Guide and Enthusiast’s Companion series. The latest titles in these series are The Lotus & Caterham Sevens by Jeremy Coulter, and Ford Escort XR3 & XR3i by Ray Hutton, priced respectively at £9.95 and £7.95. WB
