I simply must respond to your editorial comment on cost in the final issue of 1973.

It has been a fabulous year for me and I hope, for all enthusiasts. I have had the thrill of seeing Peterson lap Silverstone at over 138 m.p.h. (in the last few minutes of practice) for pole position, Ickx in a reasonably competitive car for a change (at Nurburgring) and the wonderful duel between Mars and Quester in the last Group Two TT race which we may see for some time. I have re-lived all these moments subsequently, through your pages, including the shudders that ran through me when Jody hit the pit wall just in front of me.

But I have also, thanks to your pages, been to all the other great races and enjoyed D.S.J’s colourful and refreshingly frank letters and comments, and stared with sheer pleasure at the superb colour picture. which I retain for years. I recall one of D.S.J’s letters commenting on the fellowship which he felt existed among subscribers to MOTOR SPORT and I agree whole-heartedly. I have had the pleasure of meeting your Continental correspondent—at Nurburgring during the German GP meeting—and I would like to say for the benefit of less fortunate readers (sparing his blushes, I hope) that I found him a warm and friendly person who is quite obviously a true enthusiast whose main aim in life is to share with those who are not so lucky as he the thrills and heartaches, hopes and despairs that come from being involved in surely the most colourful sport of all.

Please, Mr. Boddy, don’t feel bad about asking us for 20p per month to experience all this. Long, long may you continue.
