Triumph praise

Sir,

I would like to add more praise for the early Triumph TRs, which have received attention in your correspondence columns of late.

These cars are surely underrated—in future years I am certain they will command an enthusiastic following, similar to that enjoyed by the early MGs at present.

However, it is fortunate that they may still be obtained cheaply. I purchased a 1958 (registered) TR3, in quite presentable condition, during August 1969. To date I have covered 8,000 mile, with only minor faults occurring, and the car sailed through the M.O.T. test first time, after fitting two new brake hoses and a handbrake calibration. The TR3 has been very economical to run: during one notable week on holiday in Devon nearly 1,000 miles were covered at an average consumption of 37 m.p.g. And this in a car capable of 105 m.p.h. and 0-60 m.p.h. in 12 seconds.

Unlike your correspondent Mr. J. Simpson I am sure that all TR2/3/3A owners appreciate their cars’ outstanding qualities, as do many other discerning motorists.

Corby.
P. J. Brown.
