Praise for the Triumph Vitesse

I was amused to learn that Mr. Hay considered his Fiat 125 “reliable” after only 20,000 miles. I have covered 80,000 miles in 25 months in my 2-litre Triumph Vitesse and most of them very quickly. The engine has had only oil changes and tappet adjustments yet still consumes less than a pint of oil in 500 miles and propels the car at nearly an indicated 100 m.p.h.

A lot of unkind things have been said about the Vitesse roadholding, but I find that I have no trouble keeping up with all sorts of “sports” and GT badge-bespangled cars when they are clearly trying to escape.

In all, I think that the 2-litre Vitesse is a very underrated motor car and on a price /performance ratio basis is unbeatable. Presumably the Mk. II is even better.
