Getaway . . . !

No doubt many MOTOR SPORT readers have noticed an advertisement, which is still being published in one form or another, in which we are told “Getaway people get Super National.”

The getaway people in daddy’s white E-type also getaway without renewing their Road Fund Licence, the last one having expired in August 1962 – see near side botfom corner of windscreen.

No doubt this is all connected with the ritual of removing shoe, sock and rolling up trouser of left leg when obtaining petrol from one’s local “National” filling station.

(Now that Which? has told us that all makes of petrol are virtually identical the petrol companies will presumably have to drop this sort of competitive advertising and go in for trying to out-do one another in free gifts, service station facilities and competitive price reduction of the universal fluid they sell ! – ED.)
