Coronation Safari—1958

Britain would be well advised to enter for, and to attempt to win, this year’s R.E. African A.A. Sixth Coronation Safari, which takes place from April 4th-7th, commencing from Nairobi. Entries at normal fees have closed but they will be accepted at £40 per car up to March 1st. Entries cancelled before March 1st have 50 per cent. fees refunded. Team entries cost £12 10s. per team. This international event is confined to Normal Series Production Touring Cars, divided into three classes, up to £650, £650-£850, and over £850. These classes are termed, respectively, Impala., Leopard and Lion. Class winners get £250 and a chance of many other awards, including a 10-day big game safari with white hunters (worth £1,500) for the top six competitors from overseas. This event, a sort of race over shocking roads and mud, covers approximately 2,900 miles, but drivers must do more than 200 miles continuously. Marks are lost for late arrival at cheeks and for defects to the car. The regulations make a point that last year the class winners were Volkswagen, Fiat 1100 TV and Peugeot 403, VW winning outright. Volkswagen have won the Team Prize four times out of five. We know South Africans are very anxious to see British cars win this year. Details of the Coronation Safari are available from P.O.
