RE PAGE 32, JANUARY EDITION
Sir,
I see another enthusiast, Laurence Allen by name, has created a special using a 2l50 Alvis power-unit. In June, 1937, I obtained a later model
(1927) 12/50 Alvis. Since that date in my spare time and at week-ends I have reconditioned the old car to the extent of having fitted Sheepbridge liners, Aerolite pistons, new main and big-ends, regrinding the crankshaft, twin horizontal S.U. carburetters in place of the original single one and a Burgess exhaust system. These along with a newly designed twoseater body sans doors have produced a fine motor car.
No adjustments were needed on the transmission beyond a very good cleaning and I found no wear in the steering, stub axles or king pins—this speaks well for the metals used by the manufacturers ten years ago : the gear ratios are untouched. I cannot give any performance figures as yet became I am still running the motor in—this being done I intend to raise the
compression ratio. The whole outfit I hope will be ready for the road by March. The original cost of the old car was 415. I am, Yours etc., J. P. WRITE,
Lanes.
