PLANS FOR A PERMANENT CIRCUIT AT NANCY

ALTHOUGH it is legal to hold races on public roads in France, this system presents certain difficulties to the organisers in the way of ensuring that all the spectators contribute towards the expenses of the race. It is this reason which has prompted the Automobile Club Lorrain to combine with the Societe des Courses Ilippiques in the construction of a permanent circuit on private ground near Nancy. To be exact, the course will be 3 kilometres from the city, and will provide two alternative circuits. The first of these will be a track with banked corners, and the second a Grand Prix course with corners not so steeply superelevated. Their

respective lengths will be 2i kilometres and 3i kilometres.

The roadway will vary in width according to the severity of the corners, as will be seen in the accompanying plan, ranging from 10 metres on the straights to 20 metres on the fast curves. The superelevation will vary from 10% to 15°4.

Since nine important horse-race meetings are held each year by the Societe des Courses, the grand stand accomodation will be first-class. The restaurant, busettes and loud speaker arrangements will be of modern design, and spectators can be assured of the utmost comfort. We are informed that the work of construction is so far forward that

the first meeting on June 24th will definitely take place. The morning of that day will be occupied with motor-cycle races, and at mid-day the start will be given of a race for 1100 c.c. cars, over a distance of 30 laps or 66 miles.

At 1.45 p.m. an unusual event is going to be held, namely, the” Coupe des Aspirants.” This race is for cars of over 1100 c.c. capacity piloted by drivers who have not been placed in an important race for the last two years. They will run for 40 laps, or 87 miles. Finally, at 3.30 p.m., the Grand Prix of Nancy will take place. This race, of course, is by invitation only, and it is hoped that some of the best drivers in Europe will take part.
