T TR representative in New Zealand was able to have a few words with ” Wizard ” Smith on his arrival in New Zealand with his car, the “Fred H. Stewart Enterprise,” which is the most recentlybuilt of any of the aspirants for the land speed record.

Mr. Smith expressed the greatest confidence in his success.

“My car has 34 per cent. less frontal resistance than Sir Malcolm Campbell’s “Bluebird,” and this, together with the terrific power of the racing Napier aero engine should ensure the requisite speed. I hope to attack first the 10-mile and 10-kilometres record, then the 5-mile and 5-kilometres and finally the mile and kilometre.”

Mr. Smith was accompanied by the designer, Mr. Harkness, Mr. C. L. Westcott representing Lord Wakefield, and Mr. Nelson Alcock, one of the chemists of C. C. Wakefield and CO., Ltd. •
