New York replaces Valencia in 2013 calendar

The replacement of the European GP in Valencia with the Grand Prix of America in New Jersey is the biggest change on next year’s provisional Fl schedule.

Valencia’s departure was expected, and the venue is now expected to alternate with Barcelona as host of a single Spanish event. The New Jersey race has been placed immediately after Montreal, making for easy travel and freight arrangements. However it remains provisional, and its contractual status is currently uncertain. Bernie Ecclestone announced in late September

that the promoters had failed to fulfil their obligations — a similar scenario to that in which the US GP in Austin was embroiled — and that the contract was void.

The NJ promoters insist all is well and are continuing to build the pit complex at the Port Imperial ferry terminal.

In other changes from this season Korea has been placed before Japan rather than after it, and the back-to-back events in Germany/Hungary and Belgium/Italy have now been made standalone races. Silverstone has also been moved forward to the last weekend in June.
