BMW gives green light to DTM return

BMW will make its long-awaited comeback to the DTM in 2012 with an all-new M3 challenger.

The manufacturer, which last raced in the German-based touring car series 18 years ago, has been in open discussions with series organiser the ITR, and rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi since the spring. BMW motor sport boss Mario Theissen said: “We began making technical preparations following our declaration of intent in April. We can now shift up a gear and give the green light for development.”
