After several aborted attempts over the past 30 years Russia will finally host a Grand Prix, in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

The city is currently going through huge development in time for the Winter Olympics in February 2014, with the first F1 event scheduled to follow later the same year.

The track will be built around the Olympic Park, where ice hockey, skating and curling events will be held. The lead time obviously means that the site can be constructed with the eventual handover to race circuit use in mind. In addition, F1 can take over Olympic facilities such as the media and broadcast centre.
