Veteran cars get set for Brighton

A capacity entry of 550 cars manufactured before 1905 will take part in the 2011 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on November 7.

The annual celebration of the Emancipation Run which took place on November 14, 1896 is expected to draw half a million spectators, from the start in Hyde Park and along the route through Surrey and Sussex to the finish on Madeira Drive in Brighton.

Among the participants will be the two cars that starred in the 1953 film ‘Genevieve’, marking the first time in many years that the two cars have been together in the UK.

The Darracq two-seater, which was driven by John Gregson and Dinah Sheridan in the film, and the Spyker Double-phaeton, which was driven by Kenneth More and Kay Kendall, will try to complete the 60-mile journey.

Running the day before the Veteran Run will be the Brighton to London Future Car Challenge for electric, hybrid and low-emission cars.
