Racers that are going, going, gone…

As we went to press, Coys’ Auto Moto D’Epoca sale at Fiero di Padova in Italy saw a mixed bag of competition cars go under the hammer, including an ex-works 1982 Lancia LC1 barchetta. This distinctive 1.4-litre machine won that year’s Nürburgring 1000km driven by Riccardo Patrese, Michele Alboreto, Teo Fabi and Rolf Stommelen.  No estimate was released.

In the same sale was the 1983 Lancia 037 that won the 1985 Italian rally title (with Fabrizio Tabaton), an ex-Alex Caffi 1988 Dallara F188 and a 1977 Osella PAS69 sports/hillclimber.

Bonham’s sale at Williams Grand Prix  Engineering on December 4 promises a number of F1 racers.  Star lots include the ex-Jacques Laffite FW09B rolling chassis (estimate £20-30k), the (engine-less) FW10 that Nigel Mansell used to score his maiden GP win at Brands in 1985 (estimate £50-70k), an ex-Mansell 1992 FW14B rolling chassis driven to six victories that season (estimate £80-120k) and ex-Juan Pablo Montoya FW 24  expected to reach £20-30k. 

Among the more unusual cars in the sale will be an MG Metro 6R4 (the GpB rally weapon developed  by Williams) and the first-ever Renault Clio hot hatch, yours for around £7,000.

The sale will also include other lots of factory parts and memorabilia, including the damaged wishbone from Damon Hill’s famous clash with Michael Schumacher in the 1994 Australian Grand Prix.
