30-second board
Plan your year with Moffat, Brock, Johnson…
If you’ve never been to Mount Panorama in Australia for the Bathurst 1000 — surely the most magnificent road circuit in the world — try to make that your long-term project for 2006. If you can’t do that, treat yourself to these Classic Bathurst calendars instead. The two choices — Holden or Ford — reflect the way of things in Australian touring car racing these days, but there’s some wonderfully evocative photography here (and some informative text), from 1963 Cortina GT to ’95 Commodore VR. It was hard to pick out a favourite, but we love the shot of the ’77 Falcon XCs (main pic), with the race-winning Allan Moffat/Jacky Ickx car leading the sister machine of Colin Bond/Alan Hamilton.
But that’s not the only gem — it’s easy to forget just how wonderful the 1984 Commodore VK looked in Marlboro livery, for instance. Brilliant stuff from an amazing race.
