Bulldog breeds a double for Tuthill

Bulldog Rally I Wales I Oct 23

Torrential rain and testing conditions on the forest stages of midWales failed to stop Richard Tuthill/ Nick Kennedy blasting to victory on the Bulldog Historic, final round of the Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship.

On his first rally for 12 months, Tuthill repeated his 2003 win, setting a searing pace in his post-historic Porsche 911 on the slippery stages.

Stuart Rolt/Richard Pomfret scored a remarkable victory in the historic category, having swapped 911s with Francis Tuthill for the day. Meanwhile, another win in the HRCR Classic Championship went the way of Stig Blomqvist/Ana Goni aboard their Ford Escort RS1800. Unfortunately, the points that the Swedish legend scored cost Gareth Lloyd/Ryland James the chance of levelling the title race with Ernie Graham/Robin Kellard. Graham went out with a blown engine but

still took the title honours.

A timing error at the final control cost David Stokes/Den Golding second place; instead, Steve Smith and John Nichols took that slot in their RS2000 after Ray Bellm dropped time changing a puncture.

However, the big surprise came from Rolt, out in an older historic category 911 for the first time. His pace stopped Dessie Nutt taking a clean sweep of category victories as the Irish ace could not match the speed of the former racer.
