TGP: Estoril

Hubertus Bahlsen completed the Thoroughbred Grand Prix season with a victory as 20,000 fans watched the first GP car action at Estoril for six years. However, Fredy Kumschick was on target to win the race until an intermittent electrical fault slowed his Williams FW07C.

Bahlsen led the early laps, but spun under pressure from Kumschick. After barely half a lap ahead, the Williams faltered which allowed Bahlsen back ahead in his Lotus 81. Mike Wrigley (Tyrrell 012), Mike Whatley (Ensign N175) and John Wilson (Tyrrell 011) all passed the Williams before the flag.
