Alberto Ascari Trophy: Imola

The celebration of the life of Alberto Ascari provided one of the final major historic events of the year. Running for the tenth time, the Imola meeting featured HGPCA, FORCE and Supersports action, as well as rounds of several FIA championships.

Rod Jolley proved to be the star of the weekend, winning one of the races in each of the HGPCA divisions. His Pre-1966 success in his hard-worked Cooper T45/51 came as his rivals struggled in the rain, while he also added a victory in the Pre-1961 category in the rare Riley Brooke Special.

John Harper came back in the dry to take the second Pre-1966 race in his Brabham BT4, while John Clark’s Cooper T43 claimed the opening Pre-1961 race.

MSA chairman elect John Grant moved a step closer to the Supersports crown by winning in his Chevron B19, while Allen Lloyd continued his excellent season by taking FIA GT honours in his Ford GT40.

The FORCE Classic GP field had a double-header, providing wins and second places each for Nico Bindels (Lotus 77) and Mike Littlewood (Wolf WR4). Frank Lyons headed the chase in his McLaren M26.
