Ferrari's 'Thank You' to fans

World Champions Michael Schumacher and Ferrari entertained 60,000 rapturous fans at Mugello on 29 October, just a week after the German secured the Scuderia’s first driver’s title since Jody Scheckter’s in 1979.

Schumacher, team-mate Rubens Barrichello and test driver Luca Badoer demonstrated three of the this year’s F1-2000 models, with team manager Jean Todt and Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo sharing the celebrations. Barrichello, who presented the trophies for one of the Ferrari-Maserati Historic Challenge races, also enjoyed a run in American Bill Binnie’s 1934 Maserati 6CM, narrow winner of the second leg of the single-seater event.

Reunited with a 312PB, Jacky Ickx won both events for disc-braked sportscars, swooping round the outside of rivals to take the lead on each occasion. Briton David Franklin was runner-up both times, in Carlos Monteverde’s Can-Am 712. Monteverde’s yellow Ferrari Testa Rossa chased Burkhard von Schenk’s Maserati 300S home in both drum-braked sportscar races. MP
