Porsche Doubts

The early optimism of the Porsche Indycar project has quickly been dimmed by the car’s problems on the track.

In both its debut in the hands of Indy 500-winner Al Unser Senior and its second sortie driven by team principal and Le Mans-winner Al Holbert, the 2708 chassis failed to qualify for CART races.

These disasters have led to speculation that Porsche might be considering scrapping its own chassis and purchasing a well-proven March product with which to campaign its 2.6-litre turbocharged V8 engine in 1988.
