V-E-V Odds & Ends.— It is rather a coincidence that, having referred in “V-E-V Miscellanyto she possibility that the remains of some historic Model-A Fords may exist in the Gurayat Fort, in the Middle East, when MOTOR SPORT, Rally Correspondent was covering the Himalayan Rally. he came upon two Fords still in regular use. He thought they might have been Model-Ts, but the accompanying photograph shows them to be Model-B commercials, which you do not often see still in service, these days. In an announcement about the London-Brighton Veteran Car Run last month we referred to some of the rare makes that were due to take part. As these have caused some confusion, we will confirm their origins, from the official programme. The Jeanperrin is an 1897 device that came met from Switzerland to compete in the 1969 and 1975 Runs, the Scheibler Aachen N described as a friction-driven German car making its debut in the Run, the Grout is an American steamer and the Elmore a two-stroke job made in Ohio. Of these, only the Elmore has been officially dated by the VCC. Can anyone identify the make of the Forecar in the

accompanying picture? The reader who sent it to us says it was being driven by a cousin, with his father in the hot-seat. Later this rider had a big-twin James outfit, in which our correspondent was once taken for a ride up Porlock. Another photograph sent in by the same reader shows seven pre-1914 cars at a garage in Haverford West, where his brother was Works Manager and who let him spend hours skimming out the distributor-caps of Model-T Fords, the only task he was entrusted with. And the picture shows a couple of brass-radiator Model-Ts lined up with what look like Rover, Swift and Humber light cars. There is also a fine period study of a Mors tourer Y-2045 and another of the late A. P. Marriage on his early Rex motorcycle. — W.B.
