THE KENTISH BORDER C.C. SPORTING TRIAL

The Kentish Border -C.C. has made most praiseworthy progress since its formation about four years ago, but the entry of seventy, obtained for its fourth Annual Sporting Trial, in Kent, held in perfect weather, on November 28th, was truly surprising. Observations by a MOTOR SPORT representative on 13uckwell Bank, where the Ford Enthusiasts’ Club managed the marshalling, are as follows. The hill was too dry to be formidable, but represented a very sporting balance between power and wheel-grip requirements. Threadgold (M.G.) and Cromar (Singer 9) commenced by failing between corners, but Rose (Ford V8) and Chappell (Ford V8) went up effortlessly, as did Allard, with his brother and Mrs. Allard in the back of his business-like Allard Special. Hutchison had one exciting moment during a rapid ascent in his white Ford Special. Limpus (M .(.) came up well, C. G. Fitt in the navigator’s seat, and Peter Clark and E. K. Farley took it easily with .H.R.G.s. Parker effected an excellent ” old-school ” showing, his charming passenger nursing spare wheels. in his Lancia Lambda’s tonneau, and Smith, displaying concentration, was admirable with his Austin Seven, likewise Ilaylock with a normal-looking

Morris Minor. Some cut-down Rileys did well, notably that with a special wooden seat on the tail for the navigator ! A most noteworthy ascent was that of Hyland’s Chummy Austin Seven, which was really rapid, rivalled by a Morris Eight four-seater. I). N. Leon came up casually on his Type 55 FrazerNash-B.M.W., but I,. G. Johnson’s sister car made a run typical of the marque. V. S. A. Biggs .did a neat ascent with an interesting 2-litre B.M.W. haying a very smart special four-seater body, rather

like that of an enlarged Rapier. K. B.

Shaw was cautious with his BritishSalmson, Bochaton came up successfully, with slight mis-firing, on his familiar McEvoy-Special, and Ford V8s and T-type M.G.s made light of the hill. After all had passed a K.B. C.C. official did a very nice piece of driving in getting up in a white Riley four-seater on standard tyres. The trial finished at Stouting. RESULTS
