500 MILES RACE ECHO.

The usual booklet giving detailed results of “the 500″ has now been issued by the B.R.D.C., price one shilling. Every conceivable scrap of information about the race is included, and probably the most interesting section is that giving the ” net times for starting lap and each consecutive four laps” of every car in the race. A study of these pages shows how greatly the rain affected the performance of the fast cars. The Napier Railton, for example, covered its fastest four laps

in the first half hour of the race at a speed of 127.70 m.p.h. Rain gradually decreased this to 110 m.p.h., then 102 m.p.h., and finally 94 m.p.h. Dixon’s winning Riley started by lapping its fastest at 120.01 m.p.h., but rain brought this down to 94 m.p.h. at one stage of the race. The fastest four laps in the various groups were made as follow : 750 c.c. C. J. Dodson and A. Denby (M.G. “Magic” Midget), 114.16 m.p.h. ; 1,100 c.c., G. E. T. Eyston (M.G. Magnette), 118.58

m.p.h. ; 1,500 c.c., A. W. von der Becke and E. McClure (Riley), 113.84 m.p.h. ; 2,000 c.c., F. W. Dixon (Riley), 120.01 m.p.h. ; 3,000 c.c., N. Black and A. P. Hamilton (Alfa-Romeo), 120.39 m.p.h. ; 0. Bertram and T. S. Fothringham (Bugatti), 121.47 m.p.h.; 8,000 c.c., D. Froy and C. Penn Hughes (BarnatoHuSsan), 124.51 m.p.h.; unlimited, J. Cobb (Napier Railton), 127.70 m.p.h.
