THE FASTEST MOTOR CYCLE?

Which is the fastest motor-cycle, and what speed will it do ? These are difficult questions to answer, and one must be guarded in one’s replies. There is, however, one machine which lays claim to terrific speed. This is the Brough-Superior ” Pendine ” model, so called by reason of its successes in the Welsh T.T. Races held annually on the Pendine Sands. Each ” Pendine ” machine is guaranteed to have covered, before despatch to the customer, a flying half-mile on a private road, electrically timed, at over 110 miles per hour. Although this is probably the highest speed guarantee which is given with any motor-cycle, there are several 3f h.p. machines which will very nearly approach the “

100″ mark. Moreover, it is not only the very expensive motor-cycles nowadays which are capable of such high speeds. It is said, for instance, that the manufacturers of one fifty pound model obtained excellent results just before the track closed, and that it is quite possible that in the near future they will be guaranteeing a sports model of it which is capable of 100 m.p.h.

It is very rare that such speeds can be reached on the road, but these machines can be run at comparatively higher touring speeds very much more comfortably than those which will do, say, 60 m.p.h. only.
