Cat among the swans
Following Doug Nye’s article about water-fringed circuits in the July edition, I thought you might like to see a photo of Roy Salvadori’s partly submerged Jaguar (below), taken at the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting in 1962.
Roy was pulled clear by a marshal to whom he subsequently presented a watch for saving his life. I wonder if that would happen today.
The lake and its resident swans exist to this day, but the water is now well protected by Armco. Michael Cookson, Winsford, Cheshire
