Paint my wagon
I was browsing the April 2013 issue of Motor Sport and your article on transporters brought back memories. The hospitality wagon on page 104 was sold to BMW by my ex-wife, Birdie, for £5000.
She was doing promotional work for them at the time and I remember paying her 10 per cent commission. I was happy to do so as it saved me some maintenance! The other, much smarter exhibition vehicle is pictured in my autobiography The Life of Spice, with a description of the exhibition company. I think I got some dates wrong as I claimed both vehicles’ generators were used during the miners’ strike of 1974. This was incorrect; as you rightly point out the CSL was at Le Mans with Amon and Stuck in 1973. They retired due to an accident after 162 laps.
Attached is a photo of the vehicle before BMW gave it a facelift. Gordon Spice, Old Windsor, Berks
