You asked for letters on noise: here’s one that may disappoint — I’m with the man from Audi (June issue). Variety is key — I love the fast but quiet cars but I’d hate to see diesel Corvettes. The old screaming Mazdas were briefly amusing but imagine 55 of them going by. I’m a veteran of 30 Le Mans and I’d like to keep my hearing, and my kids seem to feel the same. It’s nice to be able to hear the commentary, too. Le Mans cars all look different too and long may that continue.

But I wish Audi or Peugeot, or another top factory team, would do a petrol car to drown out the whining from you know who…
