Donington gets ready for action

The future of Donington Park as a race circuit now looks secure following the collapse of plans to turn it into the home of the British Grand Prix.

After months of speculation the lease for the venue has been taken over by the Worcestershire-based Adroit Group, which has confirmed plans to bring racing back to Donington with a Masters Historic Festival as the first event on September 3-5. The Leicestershire circuit has been closed since last September.

“It’s a big task and nobody is under any illusions about that,” said Adroit Group MD David Broome.”We intend to bring the site back up to a world-class standard. There is no magic wand, but through a calm, cautious, credible and sensible approach we know we can bring the glory years back to Donington. The racing world needs to see Donington back on its feet.”

Circuit owner Kevin Wheatcroft is pleased to have secured a new leaseholder. We feel that we have found the right people to move Donington forward into a new and exciting future,” he said.

Up to £2 million will be spent on the track by the end of 2010, and work has already started.
