BRDC Gold Star
Points as at June 22, 2009
1. Jenson Button Formula 1 185pts
Despite finishing ‘only’ sixth at the British Grand Prix, Button has taken the lead from Adam Carroll, since the Irishman’s racing exploits have come to an end after the A1GP season. Unless Mark Webber can start beating him – never mind team-mate Vettel – it’s hard to see anyone else challenging the man from Frome.
2. Adam Carroll A1GP 174pts
3. Johnny Herbert Speedcar 104pts
4. Mark Webber Formula 1 95pts
After two second places in Turkey and Britain, Webber is now moving up the standings. It’s likely that he’ll surpass Johnny Herbert quite soon considering the strength of the Red Bull and the fact that the Briton isn’t racing at the moment after his Speedcar season came to a close.
5. Rob Huff WTCC 94pts
6. Richard Westbrook Porsche SC/FIA GT 91pts
Westbrook could have been third now but for his decision to miss the Porsche Supercup race at Silverstone to defend his GT2 lead in the FIA GT race at Oschersleben, where he failed to score.
7. Andy Priaulx WTCC 90pts
As always the racing in the WTCC is as close as it can get. However, Priaulx’s BMW hasn’t been able to challenge the SEATs as much as he would have liked this season, and his best weekend so far was at Puebla, Mexico, where he picked up 14 points.
8. Ryan Briscoe IRL 83pts
9. Dario Franchitti Grand-Am/IRL 82pts
10. David Brabham Grand-Am/IRL 80pts
After finally winning Le Mans, Brabham is firmly in the top 10 (11th-placed James Walker trails by 33 points). But the third Aussie in the points, behind Webber and Briscoe, isn’t doing enough races to make a bigger impact.
