VW back on top in F3

The manufacturer that helped launch the careers of future motor sport legends Michael Schumacher, Tom Kristensen and Bernd Schneider is back among the winners in Formula 3. In June, Volkswagen scored its first win since rejoining the single-seater feeder formula.

The German marque, which has renewed its relationship with famed F3 tuner Spiess for 2008, won at the sixth time of asking in the F3 Euroseries when Eduardo Mortara (below) triumphed in race two at Pau. Factory Porsche driver Sascha Maassen scored the previous major VW F3 victory in 1993, one year before the manufacturer pulled out of the category.
