Lola history repeated at Brands
As part of the celebrations to mark 50 years of Lola, the first sub-60 second lap of the Brands Hatch Indy circuit by a sports car was re-created during the Masters Festival in May.
Rob Hall drove the prototype Lola Mk1 in a bid to match the 1958 mark set by Eric Broadley in the same car, achieving a time of 59.452sec in a short series of fast laps.
The Mk1 prototype was built at Maurice Gomm’s workshops in West Byfleet. Over four years, 35 examples of the Mk1 were built locally to Brands Hatch at Rob Rushbrook’s garage at Bromley. Lola production later moved to Huntingdon.
