1994

Gerhard Berger gives Ferrari its first win since 1990 by winning the German GP, a race that is marred by Jos Verstappen’s pit fire that engulfs Benetton’s mechanics (above). The Dutch driver bounces back to take third in Hungary, a race won by Schumacher.

1984

Alain Prost wins the German GP (above) despite being forced into the spare McLaren before the start. Elio de Angelis and Nelson Piquet both retire whilst leading. At the Osterreichring, Niki Lauda passes Piquet to win, as Prost spins out on an oil slick.

1974

Clay Regazzoni wins the German GP for Ferrari at the Nürburgring (above) after beating team-mate Lauda off the line. Lauda spins out as he tries to pass Jody Scheckter’s Tyrrell. Carlos Reutemann dominates the Austrian GP from pole in his Brabham.

1954
Juan Manuel Fangio storms to victories in the German and Swiss GPs for Mercedes-Benz. José Froilán González leads at the Nürburgring (above), but finishes second in both races. Luigi Musso wins Pescara GP after Stirling Moss is forced to retire.

1924
Alfa Romeo outperforms rival Italian marque Fiat in the Grand Prix of Europe on the Lyon road circuit. Antonio Ascari leads the seven-hour race, but slows with a lap to go. His team-mate Giuseppe Campari (above) comes through to take victory.
