Jowsey’s quartet as Fowler takes Formula Ford double

Longer races but smaller grids marked the HSCC’s Snetterton meet, which suffered from falling between flagship events at Silverstone and Brands Hatch. Edwin Jowsey took four wins with Classic Racing Car and Formula Junior doubles, but two of the hardest-won victories went to Neil Fowler in Historic FF1600.

Buoyed by his mighty Silverstone defeat of Fowler’s Lola T200, Jason Minshaw (Merlyn Mk20) took the fight to Fowler once again. Having lost the first race by less than half a second, and after briefly leading the second, Minshaw later dropped away from Fowler with a spin at Russell.

Former BTCC competitor Eugene O’Brien partnered William Jenkins (Ferrari 308GTB) to win the longer ’70s Roadsports race. They defeated the Datsun 240Z of Charles Barter, the first race winner. Laurence Bailey, meanwhile, took his TVR Griffith to a double win in Historic Roadsports.

Against meagre opposition, Simon Hadfield (Chevron B40) romped to two Derek Bell Trophy wins. A potential challenge from Jowsey’s Lola T400 went up in smoke in testing when the

car caught fire. Meanwhile, Steve Maxted clinched both Classic F3 wins in his Argo JM6, the rare Martini Mk31 of Ian Jacobs his nearest challenger.

Hadfield also shared the Elva Mk7S of John Monson to win the Classic Sports counter, while racing returnee Richard Oldworth roared his Ford Falcon to a dominant win in the hour-long Historic Racing Saloons race.
