Old Lola and Brabham bring yet more wins for young Edwin

HSCC: Snetterton

Double-headers and longer races were the theme of the HSCC’s annual Snetterton meeting, which proved a test of man and machine as hot sunshine graced the Norfolk venue.

With victories in both the Derek Bell Trophy and Classic Racing Cars, it was another strong weekend for teenager Edwin Jowsey.

Aboard the F5000 Lola T400, Jowsey won the first DBT race by almost a minute from Steve Worrad’s Chevron B43. Fuel gremlins silenced the mighty Lola in the second race, but Jowsey took compensation from a victory in his father’s Brabham BT28 in the second CRC counter.

Graeme Dodd was another driver with a busy schedule, taking a brace of Jaguar XK wins and an Historic Racing Saloon victory in his Mk2. However, in the opening saloon event Dodd had narrowly lost out to Miles Townshend’s Ford Mustang in a drag race to the finish line.

Other double winners were Laurence Bailey (TVR Griffith) and Charles Barter (Datsun 240Z).

A major oil spillage turned the Formula Ford race into a two-part affair, but Oliver Smith’s advantage from part one was enough to allow him to sit behind Paul Fowler’s Lola T200 in part two to secure an aggregate victory.
