MAC/VSCC: Shelsley Walsh

Mac Hulbert thrilled a bumper crowd at Shelsley Walsh by twice breaking the pre-war hill record in ERA R4D.

On his first run Hulbert cut nearly one quarter of a second from the two year-old mark set by David Morris, and then trimmed a further two-hundredths on his second run to leave the record at 34.05sec.

Having been red-flagged earlier, James Baxter completed the final run of the afternoon in his Alvis-engined Frazer Nash single-seater. Undaunted, he claimed a new class record in 35.31sec, taking second slot overall to Hulbert in the process.

Another in crowd-pleasing record-breaking form was Brian White, who twice urged his Frazer Nash under his own class record.

Two attacking climbs from David Fyfe’s Cooper Mk8 got him to within five-hundredths of the 23-year-old post-war racing car record of Martyn Chapman’s Lister Monza.
