The racing career of John Surtees was celebrated at Mallory Park recently with the unveiling of a statue of the multiple world champion.

Surtees began competing at the track in the late 1940s as a sidecar passenger to his father in grasstrack events, and went on to win there on two and four wheels.

He scored Lola’s only F1 success there, in the 2000 Guineas race of 1962.
