HSCC Brands hatch

Hibberd’s FJ run continues at packed brands historic weekend

To follow up his Oulton Park victory, Mike Hibberd again clinched a thrilling FJ win during the HSCC’s annual event on the Brands Hatch GP circuit. This time, his Lotus 27 had to fend off Paul Dudley (Lotus 22), Robin Longdon (Lola Mk5A) and Michael Schryver (Lotus 22) in a fine contest.

Elsewhere in the 14-race weekend, Fredy Kumschick continued his Historic F2 form with two wins in his Lotus 69. Bruce and son Alan van der Merwe (Chevron B19) won the two-hour endurance race, while Frank Sytner took another BRDC Historic Sportscars victory in his Cooper Monaco.

XJR16 head GC pack

The Aston Martin owners’ club marked the 40th anniversary of the Jaguar E-type at its Donington meeting. Win Percy brushed the opposition aside in his Jaguar XJR16 IMSA car to dominate the pair of Group C races. Nick Adams (Spice SE88C) non-started the first race, but offered a challenge to Percy in the second.

Mike Adams and Malcolm Hamilton won the E-type Anniversary race after the leading duo tangled at Redgate late in the half-hour contest.

The VSCC’s annual Cadwell visit was marred by an accident to Duncan Ricketts in the Shuttleworth and Nuffield Trophies race. Luckily Ricketts was unhurt, but the E-Type ERA was damaged.

Kenneth White (Cooper Bristol) won the restarted race after a tussle with John tire’s ERA R9B.

Notable victories went to David Fletcher-Jones (Lagonda Rapier), Spero and Voiturette; Simon Diffey (Riley Special), Melville and Geoghagan Trophies; Ron Gammons (Lotus 11), 1950s Sports Cars.
