Ex-F1 stars for Goodwood festival
Clay Regazzoni and Gerhard Berger are among the stars who have confirmed their intention to compete in Goodwood’s Motor Circuit ReviNulmeeting on 15-17 September. Berger has already raced cars and ‘bikes at the event, but it will be a new experience for Regazzoni. Despite being paralysed in the 1980 US Grand Prix West, the Swiss has competed in races and rallies, using hand-controlled cars and trucks. ‘Regga’, who won five grands prix (including the Williams team’s first at Silverstone in ’79) subsequently founded a competition driving
school for disabled drivers. He’s expected to contest the St Mary’s Trophy for saloons.
Alan Jones, the 1980 world champion who was reunited with a Williams RA/07B for his Goodwood Festival debut last month, has also expressed an interest in returning to the circuit where he did a lot of testing for March in the 1970s, “when I was cheap”.
The Goodwood Road Racing Company has previously placed Sir Jack Brabham, Phil Hill, John Surtees and Damon Hill in key Grand Touring cars for the RAC Tourist Trophy Celebration, centrepiece of the meeting.
