BRM P261s for Coys historic festival
Three of the seven BRM P261s built will star in the HGPCA Pre-’66 feature at Silverstone’s Coys Festival, if Paul Alexander’s 2615 is repaired after a hefty shunt at Brands Hatch on 2 July.
Marque experts Hall & Fowler are confident the monocoque can be stripped and fettled in three weeks, and a spare gearbox is available. -me ex-Graham Hill car hit the tyre wall at Paddock Bend backwards after tagging Alan Bane’s Lotus 18.
Barrie Williams debuted chassis 2612 at the event (above), qualified quickest of the trio but retired with fuel pressure maladies. The car, damaged by Hill on its debut in March 1964, did not race again in period.
Richard Attwood’s 2617 (rebuilt from Jackie Stewart’s 1966 Belgian GP wreck) finished second to Frank Sytner’s Brabham BT4 at Brands. Both 2615 and 2617 are powered by 2070cc BRM V8 engines. MP
