A Mazda-Jaguar

Sir,

Thanks for the fascinating piece on the Jaguar XJR-14 that came back to life as a Porsche.

There is another twist in the story. When rotary engines were banned from the near-extinct world championship at the end 1991, Mazda were keen to maintain their involvement in the series in the wake of their Le Mans win. It seems they obtained chassis 002,003 and 004 from TWR and fitted them with Judd V10s to challenge the Peugeot 905s and Toyota TS010s.

The car finished a worthy fourth at Le Mans, following particularly strong stints in the wet.
