McLaren owes Teddy

Sir,

The latest edition provided much interest and food for thought However, it was unfortunate that the retrospective article about Bruce McLaren did not appear to seek the view of Teddy Mayer.

Apart from Robin Herd, none of those asked to provide their memories of Bruce made any reference to Teddy, who was the joint team owner, partner and most definitely friend.

It is rarely acknowledged nowadays that, had it not been for Teddy’s support, there would have been no McLaren team before or after Bruce’s death. No one knew Bruce better than Teddy, or did more for Bruce while he was alive.

I AM, YOURS, ETC
