Quick Silver
QuickSilver — An Investigation into the Development of German Grand Prix Racing Cars, 1934-1939, by Cameron Earl. HMSO, £40.
HMSO has republished the fascinating investigation by the late Cameron Earl into the German racing cars of 1924 to 1939, issued by this Government office back in 1948. The text is unchanged and still very informative. When first available very little was known about the author, but all is revealed in Karl Ludvigsen’s long introduction to Earl s credit as Erie engineer who persuaded BIOS to let him loose interviewing the Mercedes and Auto-Union engineers after the war and whose detailed and well contrived report was the first to be published. Similar reprints about the VW and the Tatra Type 87 are in the HMSO pipeline. (See also Boddy Language, p872.) W B
