A-Z of Works Rally Cars, by Graham Robson. Bay-view Books, £19.95.

Covering the 1940s to the 1990s, this well-illustrated alphabetical compilation makes a useful quick reference. Robson claims his biggest problem was establishing which “private” entries were actually clandestine works efforts, and stretches to include, for example, Mike Couper’s Monte Carlo Bentleys. This means the total is so extensive, including oddities like one-off events for Dodge, Denzel and Hino, that the entries are frustratingly short, But the driver index, championship listings and homologation rules (in which Robson mentions “wholesale cheating by manufacturers”) are useful.
