Brooklands Reunion
This year’s Brooklands Reunion on June 28 was another great occasion for the Brooklands Society.
Lots of notable cars, ascents of the test hill, timed runs on the runway, with the VMCC having its own motorcycle class and old-timers out and about. Dudley Gahagan opened proceedings as usual, with a lap of the hill and banking with Stanley Sedgwick and Ken Day, in his T57 Bugatti. Later the guest of honour, Charlie Martin, pre-war driver of ERA, Bugatti, MG and Alfa Romeo cars, arrived. Other track personalities present included ‘Wilky’ Wilkinson, Cyril Posthumus, Ian Connell, George Harvey-Noble, ‘Titch’ Allen and Tina Nockolds. Car entries with track associations included Gahagan’s ERA, Harding’s high-speed-trial Frazer Nash, Stafford-East’s Akela GN, the Kerr-Bate Special, Booth’s Aero Morgan, Ashmead’s Bentley once raced there by McKenzie, the ex-Pacey 4 1/2 Bentley of D Benson, the ex-Lones and ex-Hicks Morgan three-wheelers, the Brian Lewis 4 1/2 Lagonda, the ex-Oates Amilcar Six, Delaney’s ex-Esplen Lea-Francis, the BentleyJackson, an ex-Doreen Evans MG J2, and the 12/12 MG ex-Victoria Worsley. Baldock’s ex-Beadle Alta and the ERA-Delage were also there.
Runway results: D Baldock (Alta, 31.37s). Runners-up: S Mann (3/8 Bentley, 35.29s); T Wakeley (Rapier, 36.32s); J Guyatt (Talbot, 36.33s). During the afternoon, the new model of the track, some 12 ft x 8 ft, was admired and a splendid illustrated programme was on sale, copies of which may still be available from the Society Secretary, B Reynolds, 38 Windmill Way, Reigate, Surrey RH2 OJA.
