Lloyds & Scottish Historic Car Championship
The entry for the second round of this championship at the AMOC’s St. John Horsfall Silverstone meeting at the end of June was so strong that the single-seater racing cars were divided from the sports cars in two races. The single-seater race provided the dice of the day between Gerry Marshall (above, furthest from the camera) driving the Marsh Aston Martin DBR4 and Bruce Halford (No.70) in his Lotus 16, these two sharing the honour for fastest lap of the race and finishing with Marshall ahead by 0.4 sec. John Harper (No.6) was third with his Jaguar powered Connaught, some 20 sec. behind the leaders.
In his usual fashion, the Hon. Patrick Lindsay (below) showed a clean pair of heels to the majority of the post war cars by finishing sixth with his 1936 ERA “Remus”. Here, he is challenged, unsuccessfully, by Roddy macpherson’s Cooper Bristol. Richard Pilkington’s handling of the lusty Talbot Lago (above right) was an inspiration to watch, although Drew’s diminutive Lola, in view over the Talbot’s front wheel, squeezed past to finish 0.9 sec. ahead. In the sports car race, won by Michael Bowler in a Lister-Jaguar, there was a small contingent of Aston Martins, Bill Monk’s DB3S (above left) being a particularly attractive example, although engine maladies prevented him from finishing.
