After the Romans
Sir,
This Society has been excavating the former site of the Palladium Autocar Works in Felsham Road, Putney and has discovered an extensive Roman settlement.
The foundations of wooden huts, tiled floors and a small gravel road have been found on this site together with a small concrete inspection pit dated to the 1930-1940 period filled with valves, gauges and also dozens of old springs, presumably from the old works. We would like to know more of the company’s history but have not been able to find out more than that they built De Havilland DH4’s during the First World War and some type of convertible lorry – enabling it to be used also as a charabanc. Can any of your readers help us in filling in some of the details?
