Service for Lancia Augusta owners!

During some recent work in making a Lancia Augusta roadworthy, I discovered that there was no oil sealing at all on one half-shaft, a wholly abortive improvisation by some inept bungler having merely served to score the shaft.

As I believe that the original felt seals are no longer obtainable, I thought that other Augusta owners might be interested to know that a modern seal is available, namely “Payen” No. C864, 38 x 52 X 8 mm.

Incidentally, the Payen stockists here, Messrs. Cowley & Bester, looked up this seal for me in the catalogue and, on finding that they had none in stock, telephoned the manufacturer, who posted the seals to me immediately. To endorse this splendid service I found on the seal containers when they arrived, “Lancia Augusta Rear Axle” … proof positive that there are still some firms, of which J. Payen Ltd. is one, who still cater for a minority.
