THE B. M. C. R. C. CUP MEETING.

NoTHING very thrilling distinguished this meeting, held on July ioth, if we except an exhibition of frightful wobbles by J. S. Wright, who once more succeeded in going a little faster over a certain distance than anyone has ever done before on a motor-cycle.

Speeds on the whole were good but close finishes were rare, and as is becoming a regular feature at Brooklands, the longest race was remarkable only for the few finishers. Le Vack staged an interesting ” come-back ” on the New Hudson, and went very fast but not very far, while the irrepressible Staniland, riding for Spring, annexed his usual brace or so of wins. One hears rumours of altered valve timing on the Spring Nortons, but whatever the truth is, the 490 c.c. model lapped at 99.1. m.p.h., and maintained 93.44 m.p.h. for io laps. M. A. McEvoy further enhanced the growing reputation of his machine by winning the sidecar handicap at over 85 m.p.h. for 5 laps, while another promising rider who went very fast was P. M. Walters on the 490 C.C. Sunbea mJ .A. P.

An amusing sight during the last race was Freddy Dixon, who failed to start, cringing against the wall of the Vicker’s shed with his Douglas in pouring rain, while Staniland’s handlebars whizzed past him at 95 m.p.h. on each lap !

The first race incidentally was the fastest 350 c.c. race ever seen at Brooklands, though no records were actually broken.
