Unfortunately, what should have been an excellent meeting was spoilt by the unsporting behaviour of a part of the crowd, who could not be persuaded to keep. off the course. Narrow and rather perilous in places, it was lined with about twenty thousand people ; naturally, should such a large crowd tend to become unruly, the marshals have a difficult task before them. In this case it proved impossible to clear the course several times, and some of the handicap events had to be abandoned.

Bright weather and keen racing made up for an interrupted programme, and, in the absence of Dixon, Wilkinson (490 Sunbeam), Storey (350 New Gerrard), and Grinton (980 Harley-Davidson) proved the most spectacular riders.

E. Searle, on a Norton, performed well ; as usual, he ran into a first place. Harry Langman, for some unknown reason, could not keep up with Wilkinson, but his riding was as neat as ever. Fastest time of the day was made by Searle, who did the mile in 47 seconds.

The Car races were not sensational from the point of view of speed, but some pretty driving was shown by Walsgrove, who manipulated his Riley well at the start of the Hadston Stakes ; he was, however, overtaken on the second lap by P. Turvey (jun.) on an 11 /9 Cowley.
